Valmorel
A real village ski resort
The Secret Gem of The French Alps
Valmorel
Valmorel has a real village feel and is stunningly located in one of the prettiest valleys in the Alps.
The resort offers great skiing and snowboarding for all levels and ages. There are excellent ski schools and wide, safe nursery slopes as well as more challenging skiing that includes immense off-piste areas, often untracked for days. The lift system is being constantly up-graded, with high-speed gondolas reaching up to 2550m and many new chair-lifts. There are 48 lifts and 88 pistes, giving a total of 165km.
Purpose-built Village Charm
The main village of Valmorel is the finest of France’s ‘2nd wave’ of ski-in/out resorts, built in the 1970s. It is bustling, lively and car-free, with a large selection of sensibly priced bars, restaurants and shops. There is a free shuttle bus linking all parts of resort, which stops outside the chalet every 20 minutes and runs ’till after midnight.. You can walk to the centre from the chalet in 15 minutes on cleared paths.

Ski the Grand Domain, 1400m-2826m
The Grand Domain ski area consists of Valmorel and St François de Longchamp, across the Col de la Madeleine in the Maurienne valley. The skiing is surprisingly varied, with plenty of family-friendly wide pistes around Valmorel, the long scenic descent to St François. There are several snow-parks and a boarder cross course. Advanced skiers and boarders will find knee-trembling challenges on the Col de Mottet and notorious glacial Lauzière sector; there is extensive access to lift-served off-piste skiing generally. Throughout the Grand Domain there’s a good selection of restaurants and bars both in the villages and at altitude. Prices are lower then the better-know mega-resorts of Savoie, and the welcome warmer.
